Nooooooh! please don't!! can't beat a little Winter sun and that must be pretty good going even for them..

Canaries have had some real warmth of late too, but hey, can't beat torrential rain, wind and gloom, erm honest!

Truly severe situation, the Meteogalicia´s WRF shows incredible mean sustained winds:

Posted Image

Aside the intense winds, extreme dynamic lift, strong orographic effect, and some thermodynamically unstable air ( CAPE 300-700; LI -1,-3; TT 55-60; LL dew>15ºC) will cause some excessive rainfall amounts.
Some low topped convection in the back-bent occlusion, enhanced by cold mid level air and warm SST´s, and along the cold front boundary will certainly mix some really strong mid level winds to the surface.

The models also suggest a strong dry slot feature with strong subsidence and stratospheric intrusion, wich will likely induce a sting jet event.

In Galicia, Vigo was extremely wet yesterday, over 70mm rainfall, even before this arrived in full force.
The Portuguese Met Office has the highest possible severe weather alert covering much of Portugal.

Some very beefy showers by the looks of things in at the back of that system over the Algarve and southern Spain, lightning being recorded.

At 6pm, it was 29°C at Bilbao, and a few dozen of kilometers to the west, only 19°C at Santander. Rainy conditions are on their way to the east.

A pool of remarkably cold air seems likely to affect parts of northern and central Spain over the next few days. GFS has snow for Madrid in the early hours of Sunday and Monday and snow and a max of just 3C for Salamanca on Monday. Even allowing for altitude (both cities are at 2000ft+) this is astonishing given average maxes at this time of year in the high teens.

Indeed and below is a post from my thread Spring max challenge posted on the 24th am now wishing i had stuck with the 6C even that may be too warm a prediction lol
http://www.ukweather...180#entry854748

Here is my maximum temperature predictions for the next 6 days, hot or warm tomorrow in all countries and cities involved but then the northern flow, cools things down considerably, firstly across the UK, London seeing a big drop in temperature on Friday then diving south with big drops in temperature for France on Saturday and finally into mid Spain. GFS is suggesting snow across high ground of the Spanish Pyrenees! GFS gives Madrid a temperature of around 6C on Sunday, i can`t believe that so i have opted for a more believable but still cold 9 to 11C

Meanwhile Greece and Italy warm up. Greece especially so, there could see temperatures above 30C for the next 6 days, initially in the north with places like Serres, then the heat dives south, so Crete would be a nice place to spend the following week!

Yesterday, southern Spain had cold minimums, mainly inland with for instance 0.8°C at Granada (!), but also along both of oceanic and mediterranean coastlines, with sometimes only about 6/7°C.
