Sorry Pit am at work til 7. but did notice Sofades hasnt recorded, looking at Ogimet Larrisa for July last year and they do have some constantly high temps

yep if you look for example last July Larisa had a mean max of 35.0C ,Serres 36.0C and Filadelfeia 37.0C (with 11 days of non recorded data).

as for Sofades....told you so its gonna be a headache..

btw here is the frequency of reports for Filadelfeia,Athens.If you notice it didnt report for only one day ever since it started giving data in HNMS site for the summer of 2011.Let's hope its the same for this year as well.

Cheers Pit, Sorry have been chasing storms (virtual) but when it all quietens down i will be back to this thread i have managed to update everything, but not done the tables, here is the raw spreadsheet data, will try to update everything tomorrow, hopefully you will all understand the 3 letter code per station lol

Ian,just for reference let me say that recently HNMS has published a document regarding the July 2011 heatwave in Greece.In this document most importantly the mean maximum July temperature for the period 1955-2004 is given for Athens and Larisa. Until today we had the means for the period 1955-1997 for those two areas.

Indeed but I must admit I find its summer minimums equally impressive.Palaiohora is strong when it come to maxes but there are limitations.Firstly the fact that it is coastal and secondly its dependence on the foehn winds.It is indeed really strong in mean maximums considering it is coastal. But I reckon it will have tough time competing with areas in the interior of continental Greece.Still really impressive how Palaiohora combines high maxes (as if it behaves as ''continental'') and suffocating minimums at the same time.The town has a unique and complex meteorological behavior ,so complex that it can surprise people who study it for years.

To be honest I reckon Palaiohora is a separate category on its own when we talk about European climatology

Here is the first 3 days data, have now changed Sofades for Larissa for Greece. Pinhao takes a good lead and is head and shoulders over the other Portuguese stations due to the heatwave they had in Northern Portugal that also affected the Galician area of NW Spain.

First column is the daily data, second is the mean data to date and the 3rd column is the highest temperature so far recorded

Considering only maximum temperatures, Castro Marim is not a good choice indeed....i would not choose Mirandela either...maybe Elvas, Moura, Alvega, Alcacer or Mertola are better.

Mirandela´s mean maximum in the warmest months is about 33ºC, the same as Beja...

Well..maybe we can give a chance to Alvega, since is in the lowest area of the Tagus basin...

Mengibar of Spain an Agriculutre station, their website seems to only update every 3 days or so, at least thats the impression a am getting, which is not a problem because i finally get all the data, and its an important one i feel for Spain, below is a screen grab of the station

REVISED TABLE - replaced Castro Marim with Alvega, had to use the graphs for the first 3 days to estimate the temperature for there, unless someone has the correct data for Alvega for the first 3 days of April?
