Right, you know what this thread is for by now ;)

Could this April finally be the one which ends with a CET well below average? We are overdue...

At my site it has started off rather cool, -1.60 °C on simple mean to the 6th only mainly due to low minima. Sunshine however is running high to the 6th with about 130% of the normal at c. 41 hours.

fWIW mean minima is -0.2°C, coolest of the year so far ... but that will change.

Mean max = 12.3°C
Mean min = -1.0°C

CET From HadObs

April: 7.1 °C, +0.5 °C, provisional to the 10th

However, I make that about -0.5 °C based on the 1981 - 2010 data series.

Up to the 12th here, simple mean is 7.85 °C which is -1.00 °C against the site average back to 1985. The minima continue to run cold but the maxima have taken a bit of a hit too in the last few days. On the cool side but only coolest since 2006, and nowhere near the coldest of all which was 1986 at a simple mean of a dismal 4.50 °C at this stage. Sunshine hours total running a little below average too.

Staying cool here this month so far with an unusual amount of air frost despite average maxima. To 1700 on the 13th:

Mean temp = 7.12°C (-2.08°C)

Mean max = 13.2°C
Mean min = 1.0°C

Air frosts = 10

Mean for the 1st 13 days is 8.03C which is 1.2C down on average, the last time i had a below average mean month was August 2011, so 7 months of above average looks like ending this month

Looks like this April will end up well below average here, both maxima and minima being low. Simple mean for the month is 7.75 °C which is -1.35 °C on average back to 1985. Consistently cool rather than any cold snaps. Only the cold Aprils of 1994 and 1986 at this site were significantly cooler than this year, and it's especially cool compared the the recent run of mainly warm Aprils.

I'm looking at my coldest April on record (since 1996) by at least 1°C. I've also smashed ny record number of April air frosts by 6 days, so far!

Last April's mean temp was 12.58°C. This month's, to the 20th:

Mean temp = 7.15°C (-2.05°C)

Mean max = 12.9°C
Mean min = 1.5°C

Air frosts = 11

Similar theme here, only i have had no air frosts, just consistently cool, running -1.35C down on average since 1996, and after having the record breaking warm April of last year this year April looks fairly likely to end up my coldest on record since my records started in 1996. At the moment after 20 days my mean of 8.03C is colder than any other April, likewise for the mean max and mean minimums.

Well the 2nd half of February 2012 was milder than the first half of April 2012 by nearly a degree. It could be the highest maximum recorded in the UK for this April be lower than that was recorded February and March.

Good point! My highest Feb 2012 was 14.0C. highest March 2012 was a lovely record breaking 21.4C some 4C higher than the previous highest (records go back to 1996) but this month April my highest is 14.0C equalling that of February with 14.0C, I personally think the omens are for a late but very warm prolonged summer from late June to mid September a bit like 1994 if my memory serves me right.

April 2012 looks like ending up as the 4th coldest in my site records using simple mean, although +1.60 °C on the coldest of all in 1986. Still running as coldest since 1994 despite a slight amelioration this week. Sunshine also down on the normal, around 120 hours so far.
