The one over the Hope Valley looks to be lessening on radar. The anvil and main part are too close to see if the structure's messier, but it still looks impressive.
It looks like though (and radar is suggesting similar) that there's another one growing on the back end. It's fascinating to watch, though killing my productivity this morning.

Oh and there's a sparrowhawk flying around in front of it all - though I can't get a good shot of that.

The good thing about being a writer is that I'm not bound to a desk so can take the time to go out with the camera when something interesting happens, like a little bit of convection. The bad thing about being a writer is that I've justified pretty much consigning this week to the scrap pile and am going to have to work over the whole weekend to catch up.

Sky went black as black and i was expecting a few bangs. Alas, all we recieved was 30 minutes of steady rain with a few heavier bursts and some soft hail mixed in. Quite dissapointing really as it looked a cracker on it's approach!

A couple of cold-core funnels (scud) trying to form on the inflow of the convergence zone here, however obviously being scud they amounted to nothing. Currently moderate rain with the other side of the valley close to Edale still in sunlight.

Lots of good convection visible - in all directions.

Still to get any precipitation from any of it though - and we missed everything yesterday too.

That must change at some point, surely...

Maybe, there's a small blob just S of Wakefield that could hit you if it continues to grow. Otherwise it looks to be very similar to yesterday.

Well after a couple of rumbles on Tuesday evening it would probably be me expecting a bit too much to get another decent shower today and so thats proved with a big gap in the showers over Bmth & Poole and nothing following on behind. Looks like this afternoon will be mainly sunny

Heavy shower just popped up over SE Sheffield/Rotherham and is heading off down SE. Going to be interesting conditions on the M1.
Derby to Birmingham area look to be getting a few heavy showers, too.


Edit: Another one following it but after that it's looking a bit quiet round here for a bit.

The was a decent storm heading towards Brighton. Black skies, dark rain bands, the works. It rained heavily for a few minutes as the front edge went over head but the main part of the storm.... is now fizzling out before it gets here.

This place seems cursed because either storms never arrive or they head out to sea.

Trying to get up to Epsom Downs to get some snaps of THR cell moving over West London. Race against time but today looks much better than yesterday where we saw little here!

At long last the goods finally arrive and a half decent day for it - "mini chase" proved worthwhile with photos hopefully to follow.
April at its best with everything bar the kitchen sink thrown in today! And it's still ongoing for quite a few..very pleasant, warm feeling sunshine atm to end todays proceedings.Where any hefty showers linger on into this eve, can imagine any display of back lit anvils to be a pretty impressive one!

Having some fun here trying to snap, observe, stay dry and stay safe on the Downs! Two cells one moved across SW London and another beefy one rolling in further West. The first produced pea sized hail and now the second is rumbling away.

Incredible size to the cell over Staines way. I'm getting some incredible views I hope the photos match. It's feeding in right over London! No thunder for a while now though.

Second storm of the day over Farnham, I jogged with a waterproof and camera/phone up to the local rec to watch the hail roll in. Got a few lightning grabs on some phone video, and some shots of the hail coming in. Held my nerve until a massive CG (the only one of the day so far for me) came down about 400-500m away accompanied by a huge boom. Trotted home, soaked through, to observe from an upstairs window. What a thorougly enjoyable day!

Great rolling boom of thunder back from that westerly cell. Looking great on radar but not much behind so I'm going to try and get back home before the rain! Freezing cold now too the temperature plummeted as these cells moved through.

A nice thundery cell popped up here in the northern Peak District little under half an hour ago, thunder heard regulary (a rumble every half a minute) before being replaced with just heavy rain and occasional small hail pellets.

Just in from a buying trip in the east of the New Forset nr Exbury .
Was in a wholesaler nurseries polly tunnels buying plants around mid day.
Saw cloud approaching slowly ,thought it may give a heavy shower. It started to rain in huge blobs this soon turned to large hail which was pitting the plastic.The noise was amazing , very bright flashes and could just hear the thunder .
The hail became even more intense and covered the ground and started to lay on the tunnels.
We noticed that all the tunnels suddenly emptied of the workers.
Water started cascading off the fields and the ditches filled incredibly quickly. before i knew it water was pouring into the tunnels from all sides.
It went on for a good twenty mins ,the ground all white and some polly tunnels begining to sag under the hailstones.
As we left we asked where did everyone go? "Oh we evacuated them as we thought the hail could break the glass or puncture the tunnels"

Huge thunder cloud over the isle of Wight at the moment ,i need all that rain here !! My water butts are only 1/4 full !
