Hi everyone, i have been lurking a while and decided to join the forums, i love the weather and track storms (though the last 3 years have been awfuly quiet!) im in bournemouth dorset.

I made a timelapse video of the thunderstorm today, I dont own a DSLR so this is 1 hour of video recording sped up by 16x , the second video is non sped up footage of lighting that i caught. and a couple of photos for good measure. i hope you enjoy these:).

And one last bonus video of some large hail that fell yesterday, they lost size quickly, but some were falling about an inch big! i heard the hail coming for a good 30 seconds and had time to get my camera lol.

Hey Paul thanks for posting I was out at Hurn and your time lapse show exactly what I saw with undulating, turbulent skies that at times looking very menacing. All in a very satisfactory day for April.

IC lightning was giving almost continuous crackly thunder between 5.45-6.45 which was interrupted every 5 or so minutes by louder CGs.

I think you had it better than over here, I think we just caught the edge of the storm :( Was still great to watch though..my friends and family all think im crazy going and standing in the pouring rain to watch it, but its way better than watching from inside i think.

Awesome! getting "rained off" must be annoying but not when its because of a thunderstorm!.:)

Im supprized theres locals on these forums, i dont know why i just didn`t exspect it, but its great!:) Do you guys have weather monitoring equipment that you post your information with? i just have a couple of barometers but i have been considering buying a weather station, but i really dont know where to start.

Hi Chris CW , no damage from the hail but its the largest i have ever seen here! Any idea what causes large hail? until now i have seen nothing larger than pea size but these were quite a bit bigger and bouncing all over the place. If you pause the video at 27 secs in and view full screen you can see a 10p peice i was using to test my new metal detector, next to it is some hail that are almost as big!.

Large hail on weds, thunder and lighting on thursday, lets hope for some more tommorow

Superb video, really enjoyed that thanks. Posted Image

Hail size is a good indicator of updraft strength and dry air high up for it to fall through (wetter air and it melts before reaching the ground).
