As I said in my previous post, a lot of cloud drifted over, which is a shame, because this was another pretty bright event in north Norfolk...here is the best of the lot. (this was at about 0030 BST the night of the 1st/2nd). And just another one thrown in of the moon slightly covered by some altostratus at about the same time...

This week bodes well too in the south with clear skies most of the week at night.

Should have said earlier... Friday/Saturday night hill-camping at Aberdaron - very starry and forced myself awake on several occasions during the pre-dawn slot, but no show.

Cheers - John

No show here for the last 3 nights although last night did seem to have a bit of an unusual glow to it.

Negative observation this morning and conditions were clear. Complete no-show.

Are we going beyond the end of the season?... no sign here for the last 3 nights either, though several meteors and iridium flares to keep things interesting...

Almost yes Sam, they become scarcer into August but have still been noted.

There was a patch of noctilucent to the NNW at no more than 5 degrees early on 23 July, at first IIa then IIIa.. Brightness 2, perhaps 3. Difficulty observing these due to the presence of other clouds. None since.

Just had a look at archived reports to about 1997 for early to mid August, certainly a lot fewer reports than July but still a chance, can't believe I've not seen them this year.

Great news that they're narrowing down the composition, as this explains the question of metallic components. Should be noted that the links to methane and CC are from modelling, as AIM is only a 2yr study so really hasn't covered the global extent of NLCs for long enough (IMO).
