There are some nice cells over west London at the moment, look s like some precipitation coming out of some but no sign og sferics

My last post in response to that seems to have been lost but I can confirm that despite some very promising skies in the last 20 minutes all thats been delivered here is a rapid drop in temperature and a 2 minute rain shower.

What a weekend this is turning out to be, was out doing some geo-caching and got caught in a heavy hail shower so abandoned that to head home, as i came out of the housing estate we were on, saw the blackest of clouds heading towards Ipswich, asked my partner to get the radar up on the phone and before she could even show me i could already see CGs in the distance coming our way. Looked at the radar and it was coming right for us on a lovely high viewing spot on the road that heads out to Hadleigh, watched lots of CGs across the fields as the cell approached then jumped in the car when they were just to close to risk, storm lasted about 30 minutes over the top of us with Lightning coming down all around us every 10-15 seconds and the car getting hammered with pea size hail.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time, i'd actually given up on anything happening here today Posted ImagePosted Image

Yeah 0.6mm of PPN but nothing more than that.

20th April: Fishing boat struck by lightning off Ramsgate

The crew of a fishing boat struck by lightning were "extremely lucky" to escape injury, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has said.

Your a bit to far west today looking at the GFS model. Anywhere east of Bristol / Gloucester looks a good starting point, with the highest energy levels & instability moving slowly eastwards as the afternoon progresses. Same sort of setup as the other showery days this week.

Ok, thanks mate ;) will have to wait until next event then :(
There may have been thunder here last night but I slept through it, think I heard something in my sleep, something crossed my area about 4am - 5am? Can anyone confirm this?

There was some heavy rain in the area around that time mate, according to the weatheronline radar archive.

ATD is showing sferics for Stoke in the last half hour but I haven't heard anything, though there is a huge convective mass across the SW sky but no decent structure. Some congestus to my north but looks like it's having trouble building any higher. Wasn't really expecting much round here for today other than rain...

Very messy and overcast down here in Hants today compared to yesterday. Some heavy showers have now given way to cold, damp overcast as far as the eye can see.

Ahead of it though just 1/8 of towering Cu to the north and a beautifully sunny day here in Brighton, even tolerably warm in the sunshine..

Thanks, I thought there was :)

Looking outside just seems like a wet and miserable day, hardly any sun, tomorrow won't be any better

Travelling back from Bromyard this afternoon, met a pretty impressive gust front and convergence line that must have stretched over 30 miles towards the Clent Hills. Never seen it so black. Regular CG lightning and hail piled up on the doorstep when I got back. Rain today showing brief periods of 40 to 50mm per hour precip amounts. I presume the white blocks are off the scale.

Yep, caught this beastie further N Chris..gave several cracks and bangs - looks like it continued to develop as it migrated away.Current hail shower number losing count!...would not be surprised to hear of an isolated fc or two today, conditions are pretty volatile today and no doubt currently peaking where convection is presently occuring.

Nasty little blighter moving toward Bournemouth ATM . The best low level shear and potential instability across the UK will be now associated with this one cell! ...No guarantees for any result though ;)

Heard a few rumbles from that cell as it passed north of Poole.

Paul.

It's always the small print Tony or so they say lol - still going to stand firm, early days yet but the skies this way earlier on took a whole new dimension...seen worse storms etc., but potential is ongoing.

Reports flooding in.

At this rate the drought will not be in force but they did say that a lot of rain over a lengthy period is needed.

Still boring and grey here. Looks like more showers next week.
