[Gone Fishing]

Will be out for my usual 2 months of Chasing starting in 3 weeks time but the temptation of this Outbreak was too much to resist so hopped over the Pond for a few days for this Outbreak.


13th April saw us chasing Supercells in SW Oklahoma and witnessing a Cone Tornado East of Cooperton, 14th April I targeted an area from Wichita down to the Oklahoma and Kansas Border and witnessed 5 Tornadoes. First Tornado was just near Ashland around 3pm, 2nd was near Kingman at about 630pm, 3rd was a Violent Wedge near Bluff City, 4th was just South of Agonia and the last in the SE Part of Wichita near Augusta.

The Wichita Storm bore all the Hallmarks and had the Same Feel as Greensburg when we got onto it just before Sunset with screaming winds of 50mph into it from the South East.

- Supercell South of Kingman which dropped a Small Tornado that crossed the road 200 yards in front of us, Power Lines with blue power flashes just to our North (Only got Video of This)

- Cone Tornado Just South of Argonia

- Enhanced Capture of the Augusta Wedge whilst it was doing damage near Andover. Power flashes every 5-10 seconds made it hard to get a decent picture of this Wedge Tornado.

Great work Paul, quite some 'warm up' that! That Wichita storm was unnerving enough to watch from here, let alone be buffeted by the inflow...

Was definately worth going over there although I am kind of critical with myself for the forecast for Saturday, The Surface Low was much further South located in SE Colorado and the Warm Front, Dryline Triple Point was draped across I70 - Meaning this was a near carbon copy of May 23rd 2008 That I chased. So I quickly ruled out Nebraska on Saturday Morning and also Central Oklahoma due to Clouds and strong Cap. I even commented to the guys I was with that Wichita could be under the gun and hope it dodges anything that heads straight for it.

So I picked Salina as a Chase target, and should have stuck with that waiting for the early Drline Storms that formed near Dodge City and Coldwater (Kansas) I instead blasted West on the 54/400 and intercepted too early in the Supercells Life, with 50mph Storm Motions had to then stair step down the Dryline instead of waiting along the Warm Front which was much further south than the models progged. As with May 23rd 2008 when everything that hit the warm front that day near I70 turned East and rode the Warm Front Saturday also did the same with the Storm near Lyons putting down a long track EF4 Wedge. (Ho Hum tis all a learning curve) The payoff was getting on the Tail End Charlie and chasing that Huge Wedge all the way into the Suburbs of Southern Wichita.

Also have a better picture of the Tornado 3 Miles North of Kingman as it was forming, again due to fast storm motions we intercepted this whilst on the move as it was fully condensed but got a little too close with blue power flashes showering the road in front of us about 200 yards to our North, was in no danger from this Tornado as I could clearly see the motion and movement off to my front left so no recklessness just a little too close for pictures, that and the wrapping wet RFD Rain curtains Lol.

Also included a Picture of the Supercell on Friday 13th April near Cooperton just before we went in and witnessed a Cone Tornado on that Supercell.

Great pics, Paul, although to me it looked like the WF was still further to the north, and the line of supercells just each tended to produce something quite picturesque during their lifetimes.

Yeah was not sure where it was whilst chasing (You know the drill you get so caught up in the chase etc) Early in the day the Low was in E Colorado with the Dryline running down Western Kansas down to Amarillo. The Warm Front was just North of Wichita at 20z (Last Time I looked at SPC Meso Page) I guess with these it is luck of the draw on which Dryline Supe delivers.

Btw when are you out this year, still cannot believe we have not crossed paths in the last 8 years (Lol) And Is Lorraine doing a Uk to USA This year ? Only 20 days until I depart and I guess there might be Uk Chasers our earlier than that at the end of April for instance ?
