This might be deemed a little off-topic, but we currently have a major metal fire at a scrap merchants in Southampton Docks, spreading acrid smoke inland across the city.

Although it's not as bad now, news suggests it could last days! There are around 100 tons light apparantly, and I hate to think what manner of nasty metals/chemicals are being emitted.

I'm in the Highfield area atm, around 2 miles away, and the air stinks with the smoke, even though it is barely visible.

I'm thinking people could contribute possible wind conditions over the next couple of daysto give ideas of smoke drift etc.

Yes Dave, even that far out visibility was quite reduced (less than 1000m compared with crystal clear elsewhere) when I went past on the M27 around 1800.
