Clouds here all moving in different directions with height. Main base moving SW-NE with breese underneath SSE'ly. clouds above main layer moving in any direction from NW round to NE. Various scuddy 'roots', where updrafts are apparent.

Moderate shower at present. No thunder.

Off to wash the car.

A fairly intense cell developed just south of Oxford has continued as a bright echo for over an hr now suggesting that it may be picking up on some high level shear. Anyone SW of Oxford see this storm?

CB above at the moment is amazing...
Torrential RF as the core moved over, the CB is moving NNE but the lower stuff is moving 180° to the SSW at quite some speed. The low cloud is approx 300-500ft high and very scuddy in nature. CB itself it very black looking and very ominous, really surprised no thunder here. Amazing sky at the moment here to the north and east.

Massive multiple forks just burst out of the storm, atleast 10 or so forks in lots of directions. Cloud is rushing up into the CB at fair speed. Neighbours were out "Sky looks awful, not seen anything like it"
Its true, its an awsome spectacle.... i was wishing for lightning and 10secs later it burst out, the biggest multiple fork (outwards) i have seen since Italy.

Some impressive radar returns from that cell, very slow moving too. Have fun!

Hope you're taking pictures!

I saw the convergence from Plymouth today, a couple of nice anvils (Cumulo-nimbus incus) around 14:30pm towards Bodmin moor.

Lovely sunshine in Plymouth and was feeling hot in the sun :)

Any chance of lightning from the system coming from France on Saturday night/Sunday?

You got lucky with this storm mate, on radar there is nothing heavy like that for miles at least :)
8pm radar on meto has a nice red dot that shows the shower I think.

One word... "Gutted".
I had my camera, taking pics of the cloud... it was getting quite dark so put the camera down and was wishing it would thunder (yes deprived!) and just as i went to pick up my camera to change the settings to long exposure just in case, the one and only CG lashed out in approx 10, maybe more directions. It was like a bolt coming right at me... and forking around as it got near.
Just been taking 15sec exposures non stop and got nothing and its dissipated now to the north east. Totally gutted. Would have been my only night time lightning shot since Italy 2009

Sounds fantastic Rich :).
I don't think I've seen lightning like that! Is it called spider lightning or something?

Hi Ben, though ATM sadly the models are not picking up on much convection where the instability is predicted :(
