Hey everyone, i had some storms on saturday and as the most intense one of the day went by i think i saw a funnel cloud, but would like your opinions. It didn't last for long but i got a few pictures and have attached the best, the storm was north of me moving ESE and the funnel was on the back edge of it, it was a great looking storm, there was some good lightning, i could see hail falling over town and some wind sheer, i think this happened around 3:40pm.

All the best

Jamie

Hi Jamie, can I ask where you were at the time? (or you could put your location in your profile if it was near home) Posted Image

I just checked my clock on my camera to make sure it was accurate and it was 20 minutes fast, so the funnel sighting happened at about 3:20pm

Hard to be sure but the striations circulating around the protrusion suggest it was spinning!
Jamie, could you actually see rotation?

Looks like there was rotation just by looking at the pic - I think that's a funnel but more of a convection funnel.

Looks like a funnel of sorts to me. As Tony says you can see the spirally bit just above the tube, definitely some sort of vortex anyway...

I have made a small animation of 2 pictures i took of it and i think it shows there was a bit of rotation, you can see the whiter clouds at the top moving to the right as the darker clouds at the bottom are moving to the left, the small object that appears next to it is a bird.

OK thanks, Jamie!

Some cyclonic rotation is evident there!

Funnel tip is more or less pointing at the observer, making the funnel seem unnaturally short, but giving quite a titillating effect. Shame no one else was able to capture this from round the side, as I am sure the funnel would be far more apparent.

Yes, a nice funnel cloud here - I think there were several funnel reports from the Lincs area on Saturday, so this might have been either another one, or a different view of the same one.
