And there's more: the Lithuanian record high for April has probably gone as well.

Old record: +28.8°C (23rd, 1950), Druskininkai)

28th April 2012: 28.9 °C at Vilnius ( http://www.ogimet.co...&day=28&hora=21 )

TBC and there may be a higher reading at a non synop station.

Austria actually ;) St Poelten Landhaus, 12.00 local at 29.1 °C. Iasi in Romania at 29.4 °C.

A few 30 °C readings reported from Ukraine too where some city records for April have been broken, e.g. at Kherson.

Wrocław-Strachowice reporting a rounded 32 °C so it's possible that Poland's April record has gone higher again today.

"Tropical Night" in parts of Switzerland

Quote

Associated with the foehn coming from North Africa and the Sahara desert air, ensured minima over the 20-degree mark - a so-called tropical night - at some stations north of the Alps, particularly in eastern Switzerland and of course the Föhntälern. In Zurich and Ebnat-Kappel, the thermometer dropped to just 20 degrees, to 21.3 in Wädenswil on Lake Zurich, Lucerne and to 22.3 degrees to 22.9 degrees in Altenrhein. The result of a preliminary statistical analysis shows that those tropical nights in April were measured for the first time since records began at these stations.

A pretty balmy 31C in Bulgaria at the mo, feels more likea hot August day (if we're lucky...) than the beginning of May! three hours journey can make a fair bit of difference - tan topping nicely btw

The heat looks set to continue...

I can't ascertain if the national record for April max temp in Moldova was broken, but here is news from the Moldovan Weather office translated

Quote

On April 30, 2012 in Moldova almost everywhere has reported the highest maximum air temperature in this month throughout the period of instrumental observations - 30.6 .. 32.5 ° С, being 0.5 - 2.0 º С higher than the absolute maximum in April.

Plenty of records went in Hungary too, although whether these are location / daily records is not certain due to translation difficulties from Magyar.

Just as a postscript to this thread, at 11.30 local time today in Poznan it was just 7 °C, a bit of a fall from the 25 - 30 °C of last week!

Well that was fun.. and following on from my earlier post - from shade temps well into the 30C bracket, in the sun don't even ask? the heat suddenly dissipated as temps bounced back nearer to 7c/45F in what seemed like 2 hours & fourty minutes give or take a cabin crew announcement Posted Image
