Wind and Rain Watch - Sunday 29th April 2012

Five hardy (or possibly insane) souls, including myself, ventured on a 13 mile walk from Widecombe in the Moor to the Warren House Inn and back. I can't submit any actual measurements of rainfall or wind speed, but the weather on that part of Northeast Dartmoor was truly atrocious and the reports of around 50mm or so of rain seem about right, or perhaps a bit conservative. I'd estimate the wind to have been around 50mph in the most exposed areas at midday. The rain was heavy and incessant for almost the whole walk. Huge amounts of water were cascading down footpaths which had become streams and streams which had become raging torrents. It was fantastic to see and quite exhilarating but I'm glad I'm back home and dry now!

Didn't take any I'm afraid, sorry. My hands were so cold I'm not sure if I would have been able to use a camera even if I had one with me!

Rain: 21mm
Wind:
(sheltered from NE direction)
Gust: 50mph at 10:35
10min Mean: 44mph at 10:10

24hr total here to 1700z was 25.5mm, and it's been raining constantly since, often heavily.

We had pretty much constant rainfall from 0430 on the 28th to 1400 on the 29th, and then from 1500 onwards.

After nearly continous rain all day ( will be interested in then official figures tommorrow AWS Out of action, still!) wind has gone from a NE gale to SSE 32kts gusting 49kts. Probably one of the strongest late April gales I can recall and from a particularly unusual direction.

just went for a short walk here in Jersey - one of those really noisy windy evenings - very bracing indeed.

Gust to 62 Knts at Berry Head overnight - Station now u/s

62mph at Guernsey overnight in the tight wrap around.
