Some scary, and a little bizarre, reports coming from St Louis yesterday; where straight-line winds from a passing storm destroyed a beer tent in the grounds of the Cardinals stadium. Sadly one fatality has been confirmed though it's seems unclear as to the cause of death (lightning strike?), and 100 injured as one witness described seeing "bodies scattered everywhere". Two hours later another storm initiated the tornado sirens, as shown by the radar loop (incident at 3.50pm CDT, animation linked below).

High winds swept through a beer tent where 200 people gathered after a game, killing a man and seriously injuring five others.
But the owner of the St Louis, Missouri, bar that hosted the crowd at the St Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball event said it was lightning that caused the death.

As the wind blew, a bolt of lightning crashed into the bar, Randall said. He said firefighters told him it was a lightning strike -- not flying debris -- that killed the man."At some point in that five seconds, we were getting lightning strikes, and apparently one of our customers got hit by lightning right in the middle of the dance floor," Randall said.

Randall looked around "and saw 50 bodies scattered everywhere." He described a scene in which barstools, pedestals and a 100-pound bass amplifier were flying through the air. The disc jockey working the party was struck by the amp and knocked unconscious, he said, and people were scurrying to help one another.

How bizarre that the news headline on the link highlights the destruction of a tent but not the fatality!

Lots of youtube videos of golfball to softball sized hail, although it's often unclear as to which storm (3pm or 5pm). Usual caveats apply, as per bad language and dodgy camera skills:
