Lightning strikes Twice......ok, make that 8 times. The Iconic American Bridge is struck by Lightning

Looks like the bolt has connected with many of the leaders. I presume this is just one strike of lightning, but has discharged via many routes.

As with most lightning photos that look like this, I'm not at all convinced it was one, and the story implies it could have been eight separate ones - albeit within the 20-second exposure. But no less a picture for it.

Actually the Daily Mail has miscounted - there are 9 lightning strikes in the picture. Two don't strike a tower but I don't think there's reason to exclude one from the count and not the other.

On the front tower there is a faintly luminous line heading more or less vertically - an unconnected streamer?

Certainly has the wow factor - would love to capture something similar on the Forth Rail Bridge or Clifton Suspension bridge but could be waiting a while. Just have to take the photographer's word for it that it was a single 20 second exposure rather than multiple layered shots.

Nothing wrong with layered shots of lightning IMO, just as long as the photographer explains that's what it is! :)
