Weird one this, I noticed this morning I've got a 4 hour gap last night in temp measurements. The PPN and wind observations carried on fine during this period and the reception looked very good. Is this possibly the sign of wear and tear? I've had it out there for just over 4 years now. I cleaned the radiation shield last year but haven't got near the temp sensors since. I don't recall seeing anything like this before.

Weatherlink readout attached. On the third row the cyan bars are the signal reception and were fine all night.

Hopefully this doesn't reoccur but would be interested to hear if anyone has had similar issues.

I think that is the one thing I can rule out. I changed the battery about 3 weeks ago and usually get 5 1/2 months out of each battery. The battery could be dodgy of course but no warning on the console as you get with a low battery.

Peter, don't rule out Northolt doing jamming exercises in prep of the olympics.

So you'd have a T/H sensor of roughly 2007 vintage, ie one of the relatively early digital types. Almost certainly, the sensor is showing early signs of failure and the only answer I'm afraid is a replacement sensor. The design of the sensors has been progressively enhanced and the latest Rev J type is significantly better than the early versions in terms of service life etc.

Thanks John. I was hoping the sensor wasn't failing. Looks pretty easy to replace though. http://www.youtube.c...ture=plpp_video & http://www.youtube.c...ture=plpp_video.

Part number 6930 I think? Doesn't seem to be a common replacement though as I can only find it from one supplier at around £130. Sticker on the box says I've got a 6152UK.

So... the original vantage pro had an inferior T/H sensor which I purchased in 2002 and then, by 2007 the VP2 was still rubbish not right. Hmmm.

There are two packages for replacement sensors - see our wiki page that describes the T/H sensor:

http://vp-kb.wikispa.../Sensor+Errors2

(Actually, this does need updating slightly - the latest T/H revision that I'm aware of is Rev J)

This page also includes a link to the official Davis video for replacing the board, which you can download and view, possibly more easily than via UToob.

The two parts are:

7346.166 - the T/H sensor board alone

6930 - the T/H upgrade kit - the .166 part plus some extra hardware (eg a new heatshield) for moving the sensor location up towards the top of the shield.

These aren't cheap I'm afraid: the .166 part lists in the UK at £125+VAT and the 6930 kit at £150+VAT. As you've discovered, you may be able to find cheaper prices, though these will likely be grey imports - if you're tempted, do make sure that you get the Rev J revision or later
