Seems to have really exploded in the last few hours, some impressive radar returns and looking great on sat images. Started this thread as I noticed Estofex seems to have completely missed this area today. Anyone care to explain what the situation was and how such a storm has occurred? Thanks.

Although impressive, it was a single cell pulse storm. It collapsed quickly once the downdraft killed the updraft, but it was very vigorous for a short time. Note how there is an expanding annulus of currus completely surrounding the collapsing storm formed as the cloud bashed its head on the trop and then started to spread out in very light wind conditions.

Thanks Nigel, did start to wonder if I was going to look stupid once I saw the sferics quickly die out...
