Disregarding some very isolated type showers and localised storms, what has been the significant or deciding factor which has not allowed perhaps more widespread thundery conditions to occur of late? temps have been well up for a few days now, some equally (juicy) dew points, plenty of moisture etc - not least cape/Li levels i.e., i have seen alot worse charts, and quite frankly more in the way of storm development...seems a bit out of kilter imo.

Hey Ed,

Usually a lack of instability or possibly a deep thermal inversion layer between 1km-750mb. Based on the N. Jet position, it maybe a marine inversion layer (300m-1km).

(Beware what you ask for, lookie 700 km to your SSW...)

Not been as much t-storm activity on the whole Ed, not like the good old days ;)

There is solar activity this year though which I believe plays a part in storm development, I've had a couple of storms this year I think so it's a good start for me but not in terms of very active years; jus look at my previous years in my signature vv

Thanks for the response guys.Perhaps you could compare it to getting all the ingredients to say prepare and then bake a cake? miss one or more ingredients and you're likely to get diddly squat? or worse still something totally and utterly inedible!

Assuming the same theory applies to create a T-Storm, one missing link and a few fluffy looking clouds as evidence.. Posted Image

You need convergence lines to form for convection to initiate in recent circumstances. These are the fuel to start parcels rising. Without any uplift, you,re relying on significant highground to prove uplift.

Cheers Martyn, guess you've hit the nail on the proverbial - BUT, you know occasionally you get that gut feeling and sometimes your instinct wants to follow suit, more so after many a year of wx watching etc. - yes, sometimes you know when to throw in the towel and expect stuff all, imo i thought this wasen't that moment, again if i'm being honest here.May heat often brings with it a few sparks.

Jamie, hopefully you're best positioned for Sundays potential? Outlook better for you than most ;-)
