A thunderstorm directly overhead the Donbass arena in Donetsk has caused the match between France and Ukraine to be temporarily abandoned. Live footage shows incredible rainfall and a very electrically active storm.

I know, the storm is so intense!! I wish I was there! I've not seen lightning like that for a long time! They even caught some forks on camera!

Amazing!

Well there were certainly some temperatures there, hit 34.5 °C earlier.

I would lovee to have storms like that here in the uk, I used to get close to that in Essex and a very similar one in Plymouth on October 10th 2006 but seeing this makes me want to go abroad just for the storms!

It's going to be an interesting game if there is one!

Game resumed, no scratch that, it's a rerun or something

Loved watching that. Is there really any risk of lightning striking pitchside though, would have loved to see them continue playing in those conditions.

As much chance as it hitting anywhere, i seem to recall a match i think that was in Africa, not IIRC a professional match where lightning hit the grass it it took out alot of the players due to the wet grass, no one was killed but many injured. Also i remember Connors the tennis player being struck, a quick google search for some of these

Is it possible that somebody can get the satellite images from that storm please?

I know it won't be available until later but I would appreciate seeing them, I'm using an iPhone 4 so not sure if it will load for me?

www.sat24.com shows the area in question, Cells firing off around a LLC in similar circumstances to whats happening over the UK right now (although the environment is more favoured with +33'c temps.) Haven't a clue where the England game is located but if it's in Poland we should avoid a similar fate.
