Reports from Burbage, Licestershire - 3.5" hail Messured!!

I have requested live on BBC radio leicester that folk pick up hail stones and put them in there freezer so that formal mesurment can be made. Many listerners are doing this.

FYI numarous reports of total greenhouse smashed and car windscreens smashed.

Reports all over Twitter of golf ball hail in Coventry from presumably the same cell... pictures appearing too like: http://twitter.com/p...3809923/photo/1

Also had a verbal report and seen a written report on TWO both describing " mad twirling skies" above Coventry. Good possibility we have a cell with a persistent mesocyclone here. Await more pictures and news

Good idea. Pleased they spoke to you live, should get some interest and reports...
Sounds more serious than the Birstall hailstorm last year and that was impressive to see.

If these reports are correct they could correspond to some of the heaviest hail seen in this country. 3.5" would be tennis ball sized and weigh upwards of 150grams

That's petty much a straight line, with Coventry on the SW end of it.

Also with Newbold Verdon in the track

Quote

In Newbold Verdon, roof tiles have been blown of houses and fences have been knocked down.
from that "This is Leicester" link I'd posted earlier

Missed the Newbold Verdon bit.

Thurmaston's a couple of miles off to the East of the line - see AndrewJM's report below.

As I posted in another thread we have very strong winds in the storm that passed through an hour ago - cant confirm if it was microburst or a tornado but buildings have been damaged in Thurmaston.
