I washed mine at 9am this morning. At 10 we had the only light shower of the day and it was covered in dust! So you can add Northamptonshire to that list!

My wife commented on it yesterday after driving through the rain shower at about 6:30 pm.

She said it had rained sand on her as she drove!

Add Sleaford to the list - must have occurred in the rain overnight/early this morning.

Hey Ian,

Could it be related to the source? If I recall, two days ago there was a development off the coast, that grew out of a plume from Morroco. Is it possible the prior source could of been Algeria? (Different geology if I recall correctly, one has a fair flat run to the ocean from the interior, whereas Algeria has a mtn. ridge running parallel the coast, except for a pass to the East and a Bedouin plateau/plain to the West.)

Yes, it was obvious on the sat pics a couple of days ago, and some of the dust loading models showed the plume advecting towards us. A common occurrence with a Spanish Plume, but always very interesting to see. I thought I'd got away with it yesterday with the car in Reading station carpark...however, the line of light showers moving NE last night on the leading edge of the EML plume covered the car!

the worse Saharan sand was in the 80's cover the South East like snow.
it shut down coryton refinery for two day due to all the air filters being blocked.

and now coryton refinery is shut..but not due to sand.

Same here in Glos, about the only excitement today weather wise, missed all the rain/hail/thunder!! But cars were covered first thing this morning from some rainfall in the night.

The same in Guernsey, probably the most I have seen ! All brought down through a few large raindrops late last night.
Cheers,

I didn't notice any dust on my car, well I wouldn't as unwashed it has an accumulation of grim going back years. But on the 27 sq metres of my ground mounted PV panels it was very obvious and in my finest tradition it was left for the next deluge to wash off, and it was. There now remains in the gutter a thick deposit of what I would call pinkish dust. This is East Devon a mile from the coast.
