For the first week of July, two days maxima above average but 5 below so that the mean maxima for this month is well below average for the first week here while the minima are equal. For the first week, in my records 1988, 1996 and 2002 had cooler starts.

Pretty rubbish really and continuing the theme from June, Mean temp of 14.7C or 1.33C below average to the 8th, most of the deficit is down to the mean maximums as the minimums are only slightly below average

Doesn`t really reflect the true picture though Dave, in regards to real feel, i.e daytime temps. Take Heathrow for example their mean max including todays (to the 13th) is just 20.3C which not having Heathrows average max July temp to hand but from what i recall is around or close to 23C, Heathrows maximum temperature this month has not exceeded the average, just 22.2C. The westcountry likewise maximum average is around 20C but so far its just 17.3C @ Plymouth. Night time minimums have helped alot with mild and cloudy nights.

That coupled with 255% of rainfall for E&W and just 41% of sunshine (Philip Edens http://www.climate-uk.com/ ) its pretty pants Posted Image

Not quite the coldest first fortnight for July in my site records, which dubious honour belongs to 1988, but with the simple mean running at -1.90 °C it looks like a fourth consecutive below average monthly temperature is on the cards. Just the two warm days out of 14 which really stand out on the chart.

Up to midnight on the 17th:

Mean (1 minute) 16.1c
Mean (min+max) 16.2c

Mean Minimum 12.2c
Mean Maximum 20.3c

Minimum 8.1c (12th)
Maximum 23.9c (5th)

Running at 1.9c below my personal average for the whole of July (based on data since 2003). However 2007 had a monthly average of just 16.4c and looks very likely now that this month will prove warmer (as well as drier)

A slight improvement since my last post, and July 2012 so far is my coldest but its close to 2007 my previous coldest and what with some warmer temperatures progged this coming week i may end up getting away from having a new record

It's the coldest first three weeks of July in my site records however you look at it really. Mean daily max running at -3.5 °C and daily mean at -2.15 °C. This week's warm spell could see it catch the coldest full month which was 1988 and the only one currently with a daily mean max < 20 °C.

Now three quarters through July and my mean has actually fallen from the mid month value of 12.92C,this is due to the chilly overnight minima of the 20th.

Mean Max........................16.00C
Mean Min.........................9.05C
MEAN............................12.52C
