Thanks Ian.

It's back to Spain for the normal pacesetters: Andújar at 41.7 °C

Heat moving east alright.

Weather Historian (Christopher Burt) on WU mentions a new national heat record for the Czech Republic.

"A new national all-time heat record has been broken for the Czech Republic today (August 20) with a reading of 40.4°C (104.7°F) at Dobrichovice. This just edges out the former record of 40.2°C (104.4°F) from Uhrineves set on July 27, 1983."

He also mentions a very high Spanish temp from of 47.1°C (116.8°F) on 10th/11th? at Mengibar, Jaen Province a location about 55 miles east of Cordoba.

Ian - WRT the Montgivray reading 42.2 °C comes from Météo France so is presumably correct.

And WRT the Czech record (thanks StratoQ), here is a source from the Republic but in English http://praguemonitor...perature-record

Highest temps of the hot snap in Germany occurred on the 20th: In Hosterwitz 39.8 °C and in Strehlen 39.7 °C, both in the Dresden area. Only 0.5 °C short of the German national record of 40.3 °C in the Saarland in 2003 - the cities of Leipzig and Dresden set new local high temp records.

As a postscript, Sweden experienced its hottest days of the summer on the 19th and 20th, not since 1964 have the highest temperatures been recorded as late in the summer there.

On the 19th
Kristianstad 31.3°,
Karlshamn 30.8°,
Skillinge 30.7°
Kalmar 30.6°

On the 20th
Lund 32.1°
Malmö 30.6°.

All these beat the 30.5° in Lund on the 25 July.

Belgium's hottest day (at least August) was 12 August 2003 - 37.6 Virton highest reported at the time

I think about 44.5 was reached somewhere in France around then...........pretty sure it was referred to on this forum somewhere but cannot find it as yet

EDIT - 44.1 on 12 August 2003 and 44.0 on 9 Aug 1923 according to this MeteoFrance page
http://www.meteo.fr/...0/TMD300803.pdf

Hi Jonathan, it's funny because I was also trying to find the value which you speaking of and I think I've now found it: apart from the 44.0°C in Toulouse in 1923 (poor equipment at that time, so not a valid record) and apart from the 44.1°C in Conqueyrac and Saint-Christol-lès-Alès (Météo France was kinda reluctant to recognize it officially), there is 44.3°C in Lédignan (Gard), which is also an unofficial value.

The truly official record belongs to Sartène (Corsica), with 43.4°C in July 2009 if I remember well.
