Sat here looking out the window at thick fog and drizzle with the prospect of a maximum for Plymouth of only 19C its hardly an inspiring day but its this large low to the west that is causing our misery, that is of course aiding the heat for the SE as it draws up hot air form the south, today 30C looks possible around London/East Anglia.

A very warm night, possibly the warmest night since July 2006, below is a selection of minimum temperatures this morning

St James Park 20.8C
Weybourne 20.5C
Langdon Bay 20.2C
Marham 20.2C
Shoeburyness 19.8C
Wainfleet 19.5C
Gravesend 19.3C
Wattisham 19.0C

Well got pretty chilly here compared to many other places, was down to 13c at 6am, it has risen to 17.6c but the clear blue skies have been replaced by lots of low cloud and mist.

Currently 25.2c and clear at 9:30am

Min: 19.9c (i misread as 19.8c last night) A lot of even rural places in east anglia seem to have stayed above 20c all night - indeed its been above 21c since midnight here, if you use the 0000hour to 0000hour obs period.

Ian.. slight pedantry i know but eg) Manston South East 25.0C is technically wrong , it should be '25C' as we havent got access to the exact temperature to round it to a decimal point :)

However we do have the USAF stations decimal pointage as its usually given in the body of the metars..

Even if they dont conform to UKMO standards, do you think they meet NOAA ones? I've driven past the Mildenhall screen several times before and it all looks standard enough.

I would'nt worry too much with these sort of temps so early in the day im confident of 90f being reached today , let alone tomorrow

Yes I think they are probably reasonably ok -though they do seem to tend to give slightly high readings in warm weather

Thats the climat station.. EGMH is Manston Airport.. a different report , reading given to nearest degree only, its often notably warmer than the Manston climat reading..

Not as warm as Id expected here by 09Z.. still only 21C.

Highest 09Z i can see is Cavendish in Suffolk with 26.4C - which is of course remarkably warm for an 09Z reading. Several stations in the area are just behind it though.
The SE and south stations even away from the Hants/Dorset clag are not faring quite as well today early on.. some cloud, sea breezes and early mist generally pegging temps a few degrees down

Looking back at the hourly reports for Cambridge back in the 2003 heatwave on the 6th and the 10th it was above 30c at this time though! Shows how exceptional that spell of weather was.

Any bets for a top temp and its location today? :)

PJB hasnt done partial thickness & top temp report today as yet but I think it yields about 31-32C

I think a max of 31.5C will be reached somewhere to the E-NE of London .. like Writtle- or indeed Cavendish
