For members to decide how their forum is run , recent discussion here suggests that a Current & Recent Conditions Thread Be Locked after a short period.

Just to make sure everyone thinks this is a good idea please cast your vote.

poll closes 30/11/12 midday

Voted. In my humble opinion I see no point whatsoever in posting 'current and recent' condtions some 2 weeks down the line.

Thats still a short period Dave, "24hours or so", the so would be the next few days.

I'll edit the text so to be clear, this is a vote if the threads should be locked soon after.

Voted for yes to locking the thread after 24hrs or thereabouts. Maybe 48hrs for any late observations.
As already said, it makes no sense to post well after the day in question.

Yes from me...there's always the odd exception or event where you may well miss the boat and are unable to post, or if agreed (within any set time or guidelines.) Anything perhaps more exceptional/worthy of note can be raised in your very own thread? which is usually the case anyway - Bombarding the forum with a dozen or so replies, in one go, especially during busier times is at the very best frustrating as other threads are sometimes hidden from view - i'm more than happy to have posts/threads moved, or even removed or should i accidently do a boo boo? ok, so we're all prone to the odd mistake and they do happen, but any blatant disregard for other members, poor judgement, board rules and regs is imo a bit below the belt, sorry [y]

The layout is currently more than accessible for everyone to post - in the appropriate sections/threads and suchlike, in fact the flexibility is great and the balance just right in my humblest opinion [y]

Yes - 48 hours and I won't mind if it's 24! Suggest convective/thunderstorm reports (in the same forum) are left as they are though. Any other notable weather events (wind, heavy rain etc) tend to have their own threads in any case....

It will be no surprise that I voted to lock after 48hrs.

No, I think UKww is far superior to other forums wrt to archival/reference posting of conditions and obs. The effect on the top50 is a minor inconvenience. Maybe I'm just playing devil's advocate though.

I've voted Yes and for the 48hr option. I love posting on the C&RC thread and reading reports from others on there but it can become confusing when there is a long list of C&RC threads which have been updated all in one go so to have a lock after a certain period of time would be good.

Hey All,

Personally, I think a separate reports thread should always be opened, updated, then locked. If the desire is to allow discussion about the report, a separate chat thread can be made accessable. Keeping in mind if it is a hot thread it will show up in the top 25 at the top of the Forums. If the chat falls off the list because its a busy day would be a surprise. At 25 it generally has a 48hr life now, at 50 you are easily looking at 48-72 hours, only multiple weather warnings can clear out the top 25 today.

Maybe worth an announcement first to see if everyone sticks to a ruling. To be fair its only one member who posts old data so why not just PM him anyway?
If that doesn't work then I would be happy to go with locking threads after around 48hrs.

Fair play Howard, Dave C..or additional so called small print on current & recent to remind of it's sole purpose, i.e., bang up to date reports or as near as..? otherwise they'll be removed forthwith, job done.

Fair enough, we have - at the moment - an overwhelming majority in favour of the proposal which perhaps will help the one member realise that the flood posts are not welcomed or appreciated. By all means let us have his reports - just timeously! :)

Agree with Howard on this one. The member has not done anything wrong or broken forum rules. So a friendly PM would be the way to go.

Time for a "Last Chance Saloon" then? A last request and advising that the thread/topic rules will be changed with thread locking/deletions resulting if the request isn't followed. Is someone ( has to be one of the board execs) going to undertake to do it?

As I said before, nothing against the fellow member but please let's have the posts no more than one or two at a time.
