I've been seeing some stuff crop up on facebook today about a large object moving fast through the solar system on a trajectory taking it from below the plane of the solar disc tracking through a point between Earth and Jupiter.

Having trouble getting an concrete information so far and of course the doomdayers are going nuts about it.

From what i can gather it might be comet c/2012v4 or related but i'm no expert and i'm just re-posting what i've seen.

scary music sound effect doesnt help as it just makes it seem faker but i'm assuming the imagery is legit.

Anyone more qualified than me care to comment?

Not seen anything on this Col, large asteroid to pass on the 12th about 18 lunar distances from Earth. http://www.spaceweather.com/

May explain the reports

NEO Close Approaches DEC2012
The approaches by NEOs thus far detected for DEC 2012 only includes ONE with an LD (Lunar Distance) of less than LD10!

Asteroid 4179 Toutatis with a diameter of 5.4 kilometers (3.36 miles diameter - big enough!!!) will pass safely at 18LD but there may be debris from it that will increase meteor activity a few days just prior and following its passing on 12DEC2012; CAMERAS and OBSERVERS READY! - File a sighting report on this site IF you witness a bolide, fireball or meteor; thank you!

This list WILL certainly be updated or proven incomplete this month, December 2012. Meteor/Fireball activity for December 2012 will continue to be at an increased level. Check back as more NEOs will be found and announced.

Nothing to worry about.

From what i've read its definately not Toutatis

Time will tell i guess.

No phobia here. Analysis of information that's been posted and a reference stating the a certain number of phobia types are going nuts about as mentioned possibly a comet. Phobia type posts will be deleted.

I think this is a hoax. Mainstream media, Nasa, astronomy sites, even most ufo/conspiracy sites, have nothing on this. If it were true, a lot of people would be getting seriously interested!
