Happened to pass through Bow Street yesterday so I went to photograph one of the mature trees savagely debranched in the late November 2006 tornado. Nearly seven years later, it is doing surprisingly well! Here are before and after images.

It's doing very nicely! Amazing how nature can repair itself.

Depends on the species, of course...

I sometimes wonder how long tornado tracks remain discernable in the countryside.

A T4/5 track through a previously evenly aged wood would be visible for many years, if not decades, though proving it was a tornado is a different matter.

The track of the Tywyn tornado of January 1995 is still visible alongside and NW of the road from there towards Bryncrug - trees with gaunt, dead crowns all along a line that coincides with its path as documented at the time by Torro's Robin Harper:

I did a post on my then youthful blog on this T4/F2 event many years ago: http://www.geologywa...ywyntornado.htm.

The path of the EF4 tornado that affected the Strzelce area of Silesia, Poland on 15th August 2008 is still highly visible.
